People - Management Position Descriptions
The Management Positions described below are very general depictions of the responsibilities and duties of these jobs. Very specific position descriptions are created and customized for each customer system.
General Manager: The General Manager (GM) is ultimately responsible for the overall performance of the transit system, focusing on meeting the needs of both internal and external customers. The GM creates a dynamic, challenging and rewarding work environment for all employees by emphasizing safety, teamwork, open communication, employee input, and quality customer service.
The GM is also responsible for building relationships with the local community by reaching out to various organizations, building partnerships with private businesses, and raising the visibility of the transit system. The GM works closely with employees and the community to create a vision for the transit system, as well as identifying and implementing the best ways to achieve that vision.
Assistant General Manager: The Assistant General Manager (AGM) oversees the safe, efficient, reliable performance of the Operations and Maintenance functions. The AGM may also be responsible for gathering and reporting pertinent performance data for the system and managing the customer relations department. In the absence of the GM, the AGM serves as the acting GM.
Maintenance Manager: The Maintenance Manager supervises, coordinates and oversees the maintenance function for the transit system and is responsible for providing a fleet that is safe and in good operating condition. The Maintenance Manager is responsible for establishing departmental policies, procedures, and budgets. His or her duties also include ensuring the transit system’s compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding the vehicles, equipment, and facility.
